"Pride in Your Ride" Contest

Dear Rutgers Alumni Association,
It may be a bit late but I was able to find my 1957 35mm slide
of the "Old Queens," our 20-foot Lyman runabout, that
my father, Charles Gettleman (RC '36), bought in 1952. We named
it the "Old Queens" because of our love for Rutgers.
I guess that I was destined to go, and I graduated in 1962. We
owned a boat yard at the time so maintaining the boat was easy;
we had the mahogany transom finished in gold leaf, scarlet and
black.
The photo is in front of Bayfront Park in Miami because we lived
on Miami Beach at the time. My brother, Robert, is piloting the
boat in the choppy waters of Biscayne Bay (he went to the University
of Florida and graduated from Boston University). I met my wife,
Ricky Sobel, at Rutgers (DC '64, although she transferred to BU,
too).
Our daughter, Jacki, also went to Rutgers (RC '89), met and married
Marc Samolsky (RC '88). Jacki is now the correspondent for her
class.
Maybe you can use this photo in the next version of the contest,
or in some other way. I also have hundreds of slides from Rutgers
during 1958-62, all in very good condition. I showed some of them
at our 40th reunion in 2002. But I gave our mounted goalpost collection
to Jacki and Marc.
By the way, loyalties at Rutgers / Louisville athletic events
are very difficult these days, since I want to keep my job!
Peace & Joy,
